In May 2004 my girlfriend and I finally got around to buying a
digital camera. After spending a long time deciding we (well, I)
finally chose the Sony DSC P52, which turned out to be a good choice.
Most of the pictures dated May 2004 or later are taken with this
camera.
(These pictures of course are much smaller than the maximum
resolution (3.2MP) of the camera -- most were only originally taken at
2MP and scaled down from there.) The picture quality looks pretty good
to me, although I have never used another digital camera to compare
with, and I am certainly not a professional/expert photographer!
For FreeBSD fans out there, I'm happy to say the camera works perfectly
with FreeBSD. Using the umass driver, the camera's memory stick
appears as /dev/da0. In addition, with the vfs.usermount
sysctl turned on, and the use of a simple script, I
can very quickly copy the files onto my computer. I haven't tried the camera with
gphoto yet; I am not sure what
extra functionality it provides or if such functionality would be useful to me.
